Flameless Thermal Oxidizers

Selas Fluid's Thermatrix® flameless thermal oxidizers (FTO's) provide field-proven high performance, cost effective solutions for the destruction and removal of a wide range of volatile organic compounds (VOC's) and hazardous air pollutants (HAP's).

We offer a full range of FTO's to handle flows from 1 to 100,000 scfm (1 - 160,700 Nm3/hr.). Selas Fluid provides stand-alone emission control devices through large-scale process treatment systems, or process-integrated, turnkey pollution control systems.

ADVANTAGES OF FLAMELESS THERMAL OXIDATION

  • Guaranteed 99.99% DRE, including halogenated organics
  • Ultra low NOx...less than 2 ppm
  • Destructive process produces no secondary organic waste stream
  • Energy efficient operation, self-sustaining down to 10 Btu/cf in fume
  • Approved for classified areas...can be located directly at emission source
  • Stable operation when responding to variable organic loading
  • Matrix is completely inert, with no catalysts to foul
  • Superior turndown capability better addresses minimum baseload conditions, reducing operating costs
  • Easily permitted...no continuous emission monitoring required
  • Creates the potential for emissions credits

Flameless Thermal Oxidizers - The Technology

This patented technology consists of a packed-bed, refractory-lined reactor filled with porous, inert ceramic media. Organic compounds are oxidized into harmless carbon dioxide and water vapor. At startup, the ceramic packing in the oxidizer vessel is heated to the required operating temperature with an electric or gas flameless preheater.

During normal operation, process conditions are monitored, and the fume and any necessary air or fuel are thoroughly pre-mixed to optimum concentrations at the inlet of the reactor. As this mixture flows through the oxidizer and approaches the reaction zone, it is heated to the 1700-1800oF (930-980oC) operating temperature and oxidized. Unlike other packed-bed technologies, the reaction zone is stationary and continuous. This feature eliminates channeling or bypassing, allowing complete and efficient combustion while generating very low concentrations of thermal NOx and carbon monoxide.

Flameless Thermal Oxidizers - Thermatrix® ES FTO System

ES-100 Flameless Thermal OxidizerThe ES FTO system is electrically heated and designed to treat relatively low flow rates of dilute fume. The ES is suitable for installation near the fume source in hazardous areas classified as Class I, Division 2, Group C & D or Zone 2, T2, Group IIA and IIB. The ES FTO handles up to 500 scfm (800 Nm3/hr.).

Flameless Thermal Oxidizers - Thermatrix® GH FTO System

GH Flameless Thermal OxidizerThe GH FTO oxidizes fume streams at approximately 1800 °F to minimize production of NOx and to ensure low operating costs. This system is rated for 500 to 100,000 scfm or 800 to 160,700 Nm3/hr, and is particularly well suited for oxidizing halogenated fumes.

Flameless Thermal Oxidizers - Thermatrix® GR FTO System

GR Flameless Thermal OxidizerThe GR FTO system incorporates internal heat recovery, making it suitable for dilute fumes. Operating with a relatively cool exhaust temperature, this unit is self-sustaining for fumes with a heating value of approximately 12 Btu/scf or 110 kcal/Nm3.

Flameless Thermal Oxidizers - Thermatrix® GS FTO System

GS Flameless Thermal OxidizerThe Thermatrix® GS FTO system is suitable for a wide range of fume flows, concentrations, and species of VOC's, including aliphatics, olefins, aromatics, and halogenated, sulfonated, and oxygenated hydrocarbons. Operating with a clean, hot exhaust suitable for energy recovery, the GS is self-sustaining (requiring little or no fuel) for fumes with a heating value of approximately 30 Btu/scf or 270 kcal/Nm3. The GS FTO is particularly well suited for treating fluorinated fumes.
